Pilates is a low impact excersise method that focuses on controlled, precise movements to build core strength, improve flexibility, mobility, posture, and balance. It emphasizes mind-body connection, using breath to create coordinated fluid movements. It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century and named his method Contrology.
STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary, science-based approach to Pilates that focuses on mindful movement, optimal alignment, and balanced muscle development. It adapts classical Pilates principles using modern biomechanics to make the method safer, more effective, and suitable for every body.
Not at all! Pilates is accessible to beginners. Sessions can be tailored to your level, whether you’re completely new or experienced.
Wear comfortable (form-fitting) clothes that allow you to move freely. Be aware of zippers and buttons which can damage the equipment. Socks have to be worn, sticky socks are recommended for equipment-based classes.
Mat Pilates is body weight resistance training on the mat and uses small props for support and challenge. While equipment-based Pilates involves spring-resistance machines like the Reformer and the Stability Chair. Both improve core strength and movement quality in different ways.
Two to three times a week is ideal for noticeable progress, but even one session a week can help improve posture, strength, and flexibility over time.
